Band Spearguns

Band Spearguns are probably the most popular type of speargun in use today. This style of speargun utilizes rubber bands to propel the shaft upon release from the trigger mechanism. Speargun bands can be configured in different sizes including diameter of the band as well as length for each speargun design to accomplish accuracy for the reach that is intended. Some band spearguns incorporate the use of one band while others use two or more. One of the benefits of hunting fish with a band speargun is you can adjust the power of your shot by selecting either how many bands to load or what position on the speargun shaft to load the band on. This can be useful when pursuing fish held up in reef or rock structure where you don't want to use too much force and pierce through the fish and bend your speargun shaft. You can also use this to your advantage and select to load additional bands for shots requiring longer reach or more power for larger prey. The bands used on these spearguns usually utilize either a metal or corded wishbone where the band rests on the speargun shaft. Most European style band spearguns are designed with some type of stainless steel wishbone for strength and durability and are designed to be used with a speargun shaft which has notches to place the metal wishbone in when loading. Other band speargun designs choose to use a corded wishbone of some type along with other types of speargun shafts with finned, pinned or wired loading tabs. It is popular for some spear fisherman to even change over their band speargun from a metal or articulated wishbone to utilize a corded wishbone as a matter of preference or for use on speargun shafts which are constructed with fin tabs or pins to rest the wishbone on.
